The 3rd annual UK Chamber of Shipping Summer Lunch took place in Edinburgh on Wednesday 20th June, and Clyde Training Solutions (CTS) were delighted to take centre stage in more ways than one.
As gold sponsors since its inception in 2016 – coinciding with their own formation – the event has always been a significant one for CTS, but this year even more so due to the fact that CTS received their Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB) Centre Recognition award as part of the proceedings.
The new scheme is the UK’s first industry-specific quality mark for ‘best in class’ seafarer training centres and maritime training courses, and is backed by the UK Chamber of Shipping (UKCoS).
Commenting on the aims of the scheme, Kathryn Neilson, MNTB Director stated: “We want to recognise and reward the excellent standards of training delivered to our seafarers both nationally and internationally – and what better way to do that than recognising quality course provision delivered through quality centres.”
CTS are one of only two training centres to hold this distinction having passed a rigorous onsite process and met a detailed set of good practice criteria, and look forward to displaying the ‘MNTB Recognised’ quality mark going forward.
Colin McMurray, CTS Director was delighted to receive the award from outgoing UKCoS CEO Guy Platten, and commented on the award: “The MNTB Centre Recognition Service will be a decisive one for the industry. Those companies that believe they are running a quality centre, where the delegate come first, will see the value in getting this confirmed.”
The lunch also marked the last official engagement of Guy Platten before moving onto the role as General Secretary of the International Chamber of Shipping, who expressed his gratitude for all help he had received from members in his time at the UK Chamber.
UKCoS President Sir Michael Bibby also took time to thank Guy for being a wonderful Chief Executive, who has built solid foundations for his successor Bob Sanguinetti to continue to grow the Chamber’s reach, but also leaving behind a legacy of having developed good staff and people within the organisation.
